Randi Hamlyn - Indigo Laine

Resourcefulness and handy work are no secret to Randi Hamlyn. Growing up in the Hill Country, Hamlyn comes from a long line of seamstresses. Even as Randi pursued her previous business of working with Mexican textiles, she pushed herself to create a product that she says felt more authentic.

Taking a leap of faith, Hamlyn retired from her previous business and taught herself how to sew and hand-stitch leather. Eventually, hand-crafting leather goods, from handbags and totes to clutches and wallets.

“I love the idea of working with something that people feel is valuable enough to keep around for a long time and give it to their kids,” says the maker. “I like the authentic quality of leather; there are no two hides the same.”

In 2016, Hamlyn launched Indigo Laine & Co. from her home studio. Today, the company’s vision has expanded as a quality bag company to a lifestyle inspiration. Along with devoting time to creating her designs and managing her business, Hamlyn also homeschools her two young children.

“I realized the way our family lives is unique. We have cattle, we like to garden, and we like to purchase things that will last,” she says. “We make decisions on things being made by hand, and we encourage our kids to be resourceful and aware, as well.”

Developed to withstand use over time, Hamlyn sources her materials from local shop Tandy’s Leather and uses sketchbooks to capture ideas for new designs. Hamlyn says her process involves taking measurements of her sketches, giving time to soak in the design elements before cutting, placing, and assembling the leather.

For Hamlyn, Indigo Laine truly is about what is best for you, your family, community and leaving a lasting legacy that plants deep roots while allowing room for a wide-open future.
